My littlest niece turned 4 last week. In celebration, I wanted to make her a treat Paleo-style. I don’t normally cook for children since I don’t have any, but I love their honesty!

My whole idea of eating red meat in small portions basically went out the window when I visited my family. They are all big steak fans and always gave me a hard time when I decided to stop eating red meat.

Did I mention how excited I was to use a real grill this week? I love outdoor grilling and need to get my fill before I return to apartment living in LA. While meat is typically the first thing that comes to mine when you mention grilling, vegetables are a close second.

When I was younger, one of my family’s biggest treats was going to our local Hibachi restaurant. We normally went once a year for my mom and my birthday because they are only two days apart. You get so much food you leave thinking you won’t eat again for days.

I discovered Veggie Grill after living in Los Angeles for about a year. We don’t have this restaurant back in the Midwest, and I was a bit skeptical at first considering it is vegan. All my doubts were whisked away with a bite of the All Hail Kale Salad.

In the Summer of 2008, I wanted to get back in shape for my middle sister’s wedding. I decided on a low-fat diet. I would eat a maximum of 20 grams of fat a day. Looking back I ate so much processed non-fat food, it grosses me out now that I am on Paleo.

I deem this week around the world cuisine on Plaid and Paleo. Growing up in Kansas and Oklahoma, there wasn’t a large array of ethnic food other than Mexican. Also my family’s palates were fairly strictly in tuned toward classical flavors.
